The Guadalcanal Tourist Guide app is a free tool part of the Unified Digital Street Map of Andalusia (CDAU) project and developed by the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia (IECA). This app offers detailed information about Guadalcanal, a picturesque village located in the far north of the province of Seville, within the Sierra Norte Natural Park. Its highlights include:
History and Heritage: Guadalcanal was a settlement inhabited from the Upper Paleolithic period, through the Iberians, Romans, and Muslims; its name comes from the Arabic Guad-al-Kanal. It preserves vestiges of the castle and medieval walls integrated into the Gothic-Mudejar Parish of Santa María de la Asunción. Also noteworthy are the Church of Santa Ana—currently an Interpretation Center—declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1979, and La Almona, the oldest civil building (1307), renovated as a restaurant. Other local landmarks include Baroque and Neoclassical churches such as the hermitages of San Benito and Nuestra Señora de Guaditoca.
Activities: Located in the heart of the Sierra Norte Natural Park, the area offers meadows, holm oak forests, cork oaks, and native wildlife—otters, wild cats, and deer, among others. Hiking and cycling are ideal: the climb to La Capitana Peak and routes through Sierra del Viento and Sierra del Agua stand out, with panoramic viewpoints such as La Capitana and Hamapega. The area boasts a starry sky, the Starlight Reserve, ideal for astrotourism.
Local Gastronomy: The local cuisine is enriched with cured meats such as ham and Iberian cured meats, stews, migas with chorizo, and mashed gazpacho, as well as mushrooms and wild asparagus depending on the season. Pastries include gañotes, rosquillos, bollitos de aceite, puff pastry, and chicharrones cakes.
Festivals and Traditions: Guadalcanal celebrates Holy Week with several brotherhoods performing their penitential processions. The Fair takes place the last week of August, bustling with activity in the "Coso". The pilgrimages in honor of the Virgin of Guaditoca, declared of National Tourist Interest, are held in April and September.
The app also includes an interactive street map to locate points of interest, bars, and restaurants, making it easier to plan your visit. Immerse yourself in the essence of Guadalcanal and enjoy a unique experience with this comprehensive tourist guide.
