Jim is a young idealist who discovers the sea aboard the Patna, an old steamer that transports eight hundred pilgrims to Mecca. One night, the ship sinks and the crew abandons it without helping the pilgrims. Jim assumes the shame of not doing anything for these and starts a true odyssey in the Malaysian jungle.
