Argizaiola 38th contest of the Basque Federation of Photography
In 1973, the Alaska Hotel Alsasua, and in the course of various conversations between those responsible for different photographic groupings of the Basque Country on a hypothetical Federation, the idea arose and was called the first trophy Argizaiola. The main feature of this photographic competition was performing with photographs previously classified in the following competitions:
* Photo Contest San Prudencio, the Council of Culture of Alava.
* MEMORIAL MARQUES DE Rocaverde of the Photographic Society of Gipuzkoa.
* MEMORIAL NICOLAS ARDANAZ, the Photographic and Cinematographic Association of Navarra.
* QUINCENA VIZCAINA, the Vizcaya Club Cine Foto.
Those moments for our photographic associations finally gave result with the birth in 1978 of the FEDERATION PHOTO CLUSTERS OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY and later with the COFEDERACIÓN SPANISH PHOTOGRAPHY likewise driven from the Basque Country.
The Argizaiola Trophy was for years the leading exponent of Basque concursística, but decline it, at least the concept on which it was based, fell into a small parenthesis, to return with renewed strength in 1995.
