Emergency care in Germany is changing. Due to the lack of doctors, hospital closures and a larger number of patients, the responsibility and skills of the rescue service employees also increase.
Since 2014, the job description of the emergency paramedic has been established. As an assistant to the emergency doctor or in some situations also as a person responsible for emergency care, the training has also changed significantly in recent years.
She has become more demanding. More independent skills, more basic legal knowledge, more decision-making responsibility are required.
In areas where people used to wait for the emergency doctor to be on site, or where invasive measures on patients were not carried out so often pre-hospital, more responsibility/implementation necessity has been attached to emergency medical treatment.
The paramedics learn these skills as part of their 3-year training in so-called learning fields.
The final exam at the end of the training is divided into three written, four practical and one oral part.
