Developed by the Kenya Ministry of Health, this app guides a health provider on how to use the Balanced Counseling Strategy Plus (BCS+) algorithm, counseling cards, and brochures with clients seeking family planning and other reproductive health information and services in health facilities. The information needed to counsel family planning clients is contained within this comprehensive, simple-to-use app.

The FP+ app utilizes an adapted version of the BCS+ algorithm and counseling cards which include reproductive coercion (RC) and intimate partner violence (IPV) content and strategies from an evidence-based intervention called ARCHES (Addressing Reproductive Coercion in Health Settings).

After downloading, the FP+ app works fully offline without a data plan or internet access. Personal information is not collected or stored in the app.

INSIDE THE APP:
COUNSEL: Guides a health provider through the following stages of the BCS+ algorithm:
Pre-Choice – creates the conditions that help a client select a family planning method by identifying methods that are not appropriate for the client.
Method Choice – provides the client with accurate information about the family planning methods that are appropriate for them and helps the client select a method based on their individual preferences and circumstances.
Post-Choice – provides the client with complete information about the family planning method they have chosen (returning to the Method Choice stage if needed).

SCREEN: Guides a health provider through the following stage of the BCS+ algorithm:
Systematic Screening for Other Health Services – identifies additional health services and counselling that the client may need including cervical and breast cancer screening; STI/HIV transmission, prevention, and risk assessment; HIV counselling and testing; and IPV screening.

CARDS: Quick access to all BCS+ counselling cards. Includes both family planning method cards and other screening cards.
