The HuVolc application is a participatory science application designed to share observations made by people living near a volcano and to encourage exchanges with local observatories or institutes on phenomena potentially linked to volcano-tectonic activity. Its smooth operation depends on the veracity of the observations reported, and therefore on everyone's sense of civic responsibility.
This application was initially developed as part of the PARVOLC collaborative project between the Université Clermont Auvergne, the Observatoire Volcanologique de Goma, the Università degli Studi di Palermo and the Università degli Studi di Campania, funded by the French Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
