Martinique is a mixed island. Its culture is born of African, French and Indian influences. From its history, Martinique has known a very active and rich cultural life with a strong mix and a great musical, artistic, literary and culinary vitality.

Martinique, as an overseas department and region (DROM), has French as the official language on the island spoken by 81% of the population. However, the vast majority of the population also speaks Creole, a regional language made up of words of various origins (French, English, African, Caribbean, Spanish).
