There is an increased risk of constructional damage to surrounding areas as a result of vibrations around & near construction projects or due to train and traffic loads. The vibration level can be measured to determine whether vibrations can damage the surrounding areas.
In the Netherlands, this vibration level cannot be directly tested against a (Eurocode) standard. However, an SBRCURnet guideline is often used in practice and enforced by the competent authority. That is the; SBR Vibration Guideline A, Damage to construction works 2017.
In Rotterdam, the Municipality of Rotterdam often carries out vibration measurements itself during its activities with approved equipment. The Municipality is also conducting a lot of research into vibration damage as a result of trams and traffic loads. This with the aim of not causing damage to buildings.
The Municipality of Rotterdam is happy to give its residents the opportunity to carry out vibration measurements themselves and to test them against the SBR-A guideline. Cooperation with the residents (citizen participation) and Citizen Science were the motives for developing this App.
The app uses a smart device in accordance with the SBR-A to measure the vibrations in accelerations (A [m / s2]) and in speeds [V [mms)], including the corresponding dominant frequency (F [Hz]). The measured values can be directly checked against the limit value in the SBR-A guideline. The limit value can be set with a simple wizard.
No rights can be derived from the App. The measured values obtained can be used and evaluated for information only. The Municipality of Rotterdam does not guarantee the correct operation of the App and the results obtained. The App is not calibrated.
