Radio Capital, which later became Capital Radio, was created in the early 1970's by David Maule-ffinch. It was granted by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) the service of "London General Entertainment" and the station first broadcast on October 16, 1973. This station began its regular broadcast with the British national anthem "God Save the Queen", followed by a message from director Richard Attenborough and the station's song.
