The invisible man is a science fiction novel written by H. G. Wells. The work was originally published in deliveries in Pearson's Magazine in 1897 and as a novel the same year. The invisible man of the title is Griffin, a scientist who theorizes that if a person's refractive index is changed to match exactly that of the air and his body does not absorb or reflect light, then it will not be visible. Griffin manages to carry out this process with himself, but then he cannot be visible again, reaching an unstable state of mind as a result.
Griffin experimented with a formula that altered the refractive index of objects, causing them to stop absorbing and reflecting light and thus rendering them invisible. He carried out the experiment with a cat to prove that it worked with living beings, but when its owner, Griffin's neighbor, noticed that the cat had disappeared, she complained to the landlord and Griffin ended up applying the invisibility procedure on himself to hide .
But now he plans to begin a reign of terror, using his invisibility to subdue the country with Dr. Kemp, an old university colleague, as a visible arm. Noting that Griffin is clearly insane, Kemp has no intention of helping him and notifies the police.
