This book was prepared as literature and idea generator for students, academics and practitioners in the field of village government law to develop legal studies
and as a guide for ideal village governance.

In its journey, the village as the lowest and foremost government unit in the Republic of Indonesia experienced ups and downs in regulation and treatment from the government. Starting from the colonial era which tended to treat villages according to the interests of the colonialists, the old order era which tended to fluctuate between being centralized and granting autonomy, the new order era which tended to be centralistic, the reform order during the enactment of Law Number 22 of 1999 concerning Regional Government and Laws. Law Number 32 of 2004 concerning Regional Government tends not to mainstream villages as centers of community development, implementation of government independence and economic growth. The peak was after the Law on Villages was passed on 18 December 2013 which was then promulgated on 15 January 2014 which was then referred to as Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning Villages. In Law Number 6 of 2014 concerning Villages, villages are built with a hybrid construction of the function of self-governing community with local self-government. It is hoped that through this formulation the village will become more developed without abandoning its personality in accordance with the Nawa Cita proclaimed by the government, namely carrying out development from the outskirts.

There is no ivory that is not cracked, there is nothing perfect in this world except God Almighty. To improve and develop this book, the author looks forward to suggestions and input from all parties who are interested in village government law.
