As a form of active participation in accordance with the Law on the National Education System and the Direction of Objectives of the Muhammadiyah Persyarikatan Movement, Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta developed a new Study Program, the English Language Study Program (PBI Study Program). The English Education Study Program was established in 2010 based on the Decree of the Minister of National Education No. 34 / D / O / 2010, 25 March 2010. The English Education Study Program was first held under the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Muhammadiyah University, Yogyakarta. Along with the development and development of the language department within the university, in 2013 the Faculty of Language Education was established. So since 2013, the English Education Study Program was established under the Faculty of Language Education. In August 2014, the English Language Study Program received an accreditation from the National Higher Education Accreditation Agency with Decree Number: 377 / SK / BAN-AT / AKRED / S / IX / 2014. All the academic community of PBI Study Program works well for prepare for re-circulation. In 2016, PBI Study Program received A Accreditation from the National Higher Education Accreditation Agency with Decree Number: 2863 / SK / BAN-PT / Akred / S / XII / 2016.

The English Education Study Establishment Program is asking for help to improve quality, support, provide teaching staff for teachers in Indonesia, including English teachers, who can utilize their knowledge to support good and right. In addition, this Study Program is projected to develop an information technology-based English curriculum that is able to produce English teachers who are capable of answering the challenges of the development of the era, specifically in the field of English Language Education in Indonesia.
