Renowned literatuer Purushottam Laxman Deshpande, popularly known as Pu.La., was born in Mumbai. Pula grew up between the two world wars in an idyllic suburb of Mumbai and, later in Pune cities which were then largely unspoilt by glamour or greed. Pula's worldview was marked by a certain innocence and nostalgia.
