The parent to child program provides parents and caregivers with the guidance and resources they need to raise healthy and resilient children. The program helps parents build strong relationships with their children, while providing simple and effective strategies to enhance children's development. In the Parent App library, parents have access to more than 60 children's books, as well as a guide to sharing books and stories to enhance children's learning.
The parent app was developed by researchers with the help of feedback from parents and guardians.

The parent app includes key features:
Interactive topics: The parenting program introduces key parenting strategies one at a time, using a series of interactive topics that accompany suggested home activities. This model makes it easy for busy parents to find resources and guidance at their convenience throughout the day or week.
Audio and visual features: The parent app uses a variety of audio, visuals and short videos so parents can learn by listening and watching, instead of just reading. This feature helps all caregivers, including those with limited access to and share app content.
Access to digital books: The app library for parents includes over 60 digital picture books designed to engage young readers, which parents can share and read with their Children.
Home activity recommendations: The parent app offers book and game activity recommendations to promote a shared experience between Children and parents.
Finding support resources: The resource center offers activities and resources to help caregivers feel more supported and educated. Resources include activities to deal with depression, activities to help children learn, activities to generate income, and contacts for support services available in the areas where they live. .
Social Support: Users can join whasApp enabled groups where they can share experiences, seek advice, and build a support network with other caregivers.
Access when there is no internet: Recognizing the challenge of internet access in many places, whasApp has been designed to work more where there is no internet. This ensures that caregivers can access basic content without needing to be constantly connected to the Internet.
Video streaming: To accommodate users with limited memory space on their phones, short videos on the parent app can be watched via streaming instead of downloading video content to their phones.

The parent-to-child program was developed as part of the Global Parenting Program (GPI) and with financial support from the LEGO Foundation. GPI supports the rapid development and evaluation of open source, game-based education programs for Longevity/full-time Health (PLH). PLH is an international collaboration between education professionals from Universities in South Africa and England, UNICEF, WHO and non-governmental organizations in Africa and families throughout Africa.
