Maithili Sharan Gupt is stalwart of hindi literature. He is counted among one of the greatest poets of Hindi along with Sumitranandan Pant, Ramdhari Singh Dinkar, Suryakant Tripathi Nirala etc .

He had command over Sanskrit, Hindi and Bengali. His famous compositions include Saket (महाकाव्य: साकेत) ; Bharat Bharti (भारत-भारती), Panchvati (पंचवटी), Yashodahara (यशोधरा),Patravali ( पत्रावली), Swadesh Sangeet (स्वदेश संगीत), Guru Teg Bahadur ( गुरु तेग बहादुर) etc .
