That's what I heard. Once the Blessed One was living near Savatthi,
in Jeta's Grove, in Anathapindika's Hermitage."

Many suttas begin with this sentence, so that the name of this great disciple of the Buddha Gotama became famous. Anathapindika was the richest merchant in Savatthi during the Buddha's lifetime.
Born Sudatta, he earned the nickname Anathapindika, the feeder of the poor".

Anathapindika was dubbed by the Buddha as the Supreme Being of Compassion." He donated to the hermitage which became the Buddha's longest residence. He was also a saint.
Thanks to his upbringing, his four children also attained sainthood.

Buddha delivered many lectures
to Anathapindika who is
important spiritual reference for the householder.
