The app allows to schedule the taking of a supplement from one time a day to 3 times a day. The user schedules the time he plans to take the supplement. When it is time to take the supplement, the app will send a push notification to remind the user to take his supplement. The app can work with our without (our preference is with) a smart cap, that monitoring the actual usage of the supplement, as it is the closure lid to the supplement bottle. The Smart cap itself also reminds the user to take their supplement by flashing lights and making a sound.

The smart cap stores in memory the events that happened to the supplement bottle and cap, and if there are pending events that the cap knows about, that were not transmitted to the app, the smart cap tries to advertise them. Once the cap and the app (phone) are in the same area, we want the app to get the data from the cap via Bluetooth low energy (BLE). For this to work without asking the user to open the app to the foreground every time, the app needs the location permission in the background. That way the app gets the data when it is near the cap. This eliminates false supplement reminder push notifications. For example if a person scheduled to take a supplement at 8am, and actually takes it at 7:50 am. The cap will let the app know about it and the app will not send a push notification at 8am, as the user already took his supplement.
