I Sentieri dell’Acqua Antica is the official app dedicated to hiking and discovering the territory of Vaglio Basilicata, designed for those who want to escape from the chaos of the city and reconnect with nature, culture and the ancient roots of Lucania.

In recent years, hiking has gone beyond the boundaries of recreational activity, transforming into a real tourist experience with positive effects on the economy of rural territories. This app was created precisely to enhance and make accessible the hiking trails of Vaglio Basilicata, combining technology, tradition and territory in a single tourist proposal.

The app guides the user through two equipped routes - created thanks to the regional call for proposals "Green Infrastructures" - which, starting from the historic center of the town, connect its two main cultural centers:

- the Archaeological Park of Serra di Vaglio,
- the Sanctuary of Rossano, dedicated to the goddess Mephite, a divinity linked to water and purification rites.

The common thread of this journey is water, a symbolic and identifying element of Vaglio, which runs through history, nature and spirituality. Along the way you can also discover other places of great charm, such as the Fontana Vecchia and the Neviera.

The journey is not only a physical experience, but also a cultural one. The app tells the story of the ancient road vocation of the territory, once connected to ten important cities of Lucania through a network of roads that today are reborn in the form of recovered sheep tracks and paths. The project also recovers the spirit of transhumance and pilgrimage, thus linking trekking to collective memory and local traditions.

One of the distinctive elements is the involvement of the local community: citizens, tour operators and agricultural companies will be an active part of the project. The user will be able to experience widespread hospitality, meeting people, places and authentic flavors along the way.

The app is designed for walkers, but also for some types of cyclists, thanks to the certified cycling of the territory: Vaglio is in fact the only Lucanian municipality recognized by FIAB (Italian Federation of Environment and Bicycle).
