The project actively involved students from the Pietralunga secondary school, offering them an educational experience focused on exploring the territory and educating them on environmental sustainability. Inside the Candeleto nature reserve and in the surrounding areas, the students designed and developed a series of educational and recreational routes to help them discover nature in a creative, conscious and fun way.
The routes, created by the students, are now an integral part of the HUSH app, developed in collaboration with the University of Perugia.
The app is designed especially for families with children and teenagers, who, through simple and engaging language, can become the real guides of the route, accompanying parents, grandparents and friends to discover the territory. A reversal of roles that stimulates curiosity, strengthens dialogue between generations and makes the experience even more engaging for everyone.
The ESCI! project also included the active participation of students in informative and demonstration events, strengthening the bond with the local community and promoting a culture of sustainability. Thanks to the use of the app, visitors can now explore the area with an accessible, interactive digital tool designed to enhance the natural landscape through the eyes and voices of the youngest. A virtuous example of co-design that focuses on the creativity and critical sense of young people, building a bridge between education, environment and experiential tourism.
ITINERARY 1
CASTEL FRANCO RING
A walk through woods and ancient communication routes.
The ring route, suitable for everyone and open all year round, winds for 4 km with a difference in altitude of 240 m.
The path takes its name from the church of Castelfranco, an elegant sixteenth-century building, in a panoramic position where "nearby is the division of the waters, some of which go to the Mediterranean and others to the Adriatic".
The two slopes of the roof of the Church of Castelfranco, in fact, feed the springs of the Carpina torrent (a tributary of the Tiber) on one side, and those of the Certano (a tributary of the Metauro) on the other.
ITINERARY 2
NATURE TRAIL: CANDELETO
The Candeleto Pine Forest is a coniferous forest with a prevalence of black pine, resulting from reforestation carried out between the end of the 1920s and the 1970s. They were carried out on degraded and formerly cultivated areas using stepped planting techniques in the steepest stations, and holes in the flatter ones, with a visible regular distribution of plants.
The Nature Trail is an easy and short route, suitable for all nature lovers. Open all year round, it winds for 3.5 km with a difference in altitude of 140 m, immersed in the suggestive setting of the Candeleto pine forest.
ITINERARY 3
CASE NUOVE TRAIL: RAPASTELLO
The trail starts from Case Nuove and follows the gravel road to join the more famous Rapastello ring, thus forming a “balloon” trek.
The trail is accessible all year round and is suitable for everyone; it is 3 km long with a difference in altitude of 120 m.
This extension of the trail allows you to reach the church of Sant’Angelo, located in a dominant position over the Carpina valley and included in the Fonteroccoli castle district, outside the city walls. In the same district there is also the church of San Donnino, linked to a popular tradition according to which the saint healed a man suffering from hydrophobia by offering him water and wine to drink that he had blessed. The trail then continues to the top of Montaccio, at 795 meters above sea level, offering wide panoramic views of the Apennines.
