In July 2018, thanks to the support of the Fondazione Roma, La Sapienza established a medical simulation and training laboratory, located at the University’s Advanced Medical Training teaching center in the Policlinico Umberto I University Hospital.
The center is equipped with highly technological instruments and equipment, and is able to create high-fidelity scenarios. It is aimed at students and specialists in the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry and Pharmacy and Medicine, for the simulation of emergency interventions and in crisis conditions, such as respiratory, cardiocirculatory and renal alterations.
Thanks to the use of innovative and hyper-realistic mannequins, it is possible to practice performing specific medical activities and practices such as making bandages, applying stitches, catheterization and blood sampling maneuvers, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
The aim of the Skill Lab is to allow its users to put medical theory into practice, under the supervision of teachers with the role of "facilitators", in conditions of absolute safety and ethics, before moving on to the direct phase on the patient.
Through this app, students can also download useful material for exercises, access operational checklists, consult simulated clinical cases and best prepare for the activities planned by the Skill Lab.
