■Outline of the General Insurance Examination
The General Insurance Examination is designed to verify that general insurance salespeople have acquired the necessary knowledge to accurately explain important details about insurance products when selling insurance.
The exam consists of a basic unit and product-specific units (automobile insurance, fire insurance, and accident and illness insurance). It is open to those who are about to register as an agent or apply for agent registration, as well as those who have already registered as an agent or applied for agent registration and have received approval from the general insurance company.
*Examination is optional for salespeople working for agencies that handle only compulsory automobile liability insurance, only nuclear insurance, or only marine and transportation insurance.
For the General Insurance Examination, salespeople must pass the basic unit to register as an agent or apply for agent registration. In principle, salespeople must pass the product-specific unit corresponding to the insurance product they handle before they can sell that insurance product.
