The Community Radio mobile app is a product made by a for-profit company called RahnTech LLC. RahnTech has no direct affiliation with any community radio station, but loves community radio and its members are known to volunteer DJ from time to time.
Why community radio ?
Community radio stations are, by and large, volunteer-driven and community-powered. This provides some key advantages over commercial radio:
- Volunteer DJs are broadcasting because they love doing it, not because they're getting paid. They love the music they're playing, and usually have deep knowledge to share.
- Community radio stations often offer a wide range of genres and programs, and tend to look more like their communities they serve. There's something for everyone, and by anyone.
- "They don't pay us, so they can't tell us what to play" is very indicative of the community radio mindset.
- Community radio stations don't have ads, and therefore don't chase what they think advertisers want them to play. They play whatever they, or their DJs, want to play. A large portion of community radio content is music you won't hear on commercial radio.
Why now ?
- We're living through the biggest assault on Americans freedoms, ever. The threat is coming from the inside, and growing steadily.
- Commercial broadcast stations that don't cater to the prevailing autocratic sentiment are under siege. Lawsuits threaten to bankrupt them, and talk of potentially rescinding their broadcast licenses is louder than ever.
- The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), National Public Radio (NPR), and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) have all either been defunded or are on the chopping block.
- Community radio stations expect their funding to be slashed, and may ever lose their tax-exempt status.
- This ia a time to rally together, to lift up the free speech of everyday Americans. Community radio stations provide a rainbow of different voices, from all walks of life, all ages and backgrounds, each as important and vital as the next.
- Protecting community radio means asserting our rights as Americans.
- "They" can stop a lot, but as Mr. Universe said in That Big Damn Movie, "They can't stop the signal".
