Soseki Natsume was born on January 5, 3rd year of Keio (February 9th of the new calendar) in Babashitacho, Edo Ushigome. His real name is Kinnosuke Natsume. After graduating from Imperial University of Arts and Sciences (Faculty of Letters, University of Tokyo), he studied abroad in England in 1900 after working as a teacher at Tokyo Higher Normal School, Matsuyama Junior High School, and Fifth High School. After returning to Japan, while teaching at Daiichi High School, he released his maiden work "I am a cat" in 1905. 1906 Announced "Bocchan" and "Kusamakura". In 1907, he quit his teaching profession and joined Asahi Shimbun. Then, he announces "Consort Yu" and "Sanshiro", but he begins to suffer from stomach disease. On December 9, 1916, he fell asleep due to a stomach ulcer during the serialization of "Light and Dark". He was 50 years old.
