The augmented reality (AR) app “On the trail of biodiversity” is a digital extension of the Greenpeace teaching material “On the brink – diversity and the basics of life”. It is suitable for use from grade 9 onwards.
Starting from the question “Are we on the right path?”, the students independently and virtually discover different places on earth where the preservation of biodiversity is particularly at risk and at the same time engage with the world around them. Whether in the Amazon rainforest or the Great Barrier Reef, on a local meadow or in the supermarket - this virtual experience can create a positive, motivational learning experience. The application opens up an innovative and at the same time emotional approach to the topic of biological diversity in the classroom and uses the opportunities of digitality for effective education for sustainable development (ESD).
The digital research trip can be easily implemented in a double lesson - in group or individual work. It is part of the overall concept of the extensive teaching material “Auf der Kippe. “Diversity and the foundations of biodiversity” didactically embedded in such a way that it corresponds to the solution and action-oriented approach of an ESD and at the same time offers impulses for the critical examination of the following question: Are we on the right track with our lifestyles and global decisions?
