In the Asthma app you keep track of when you use short-acting bronchodilators (SABAs), how you feel and what the (possible) cause of your complaints is. Based on your information, you will gain insight into your use of SABAs and how this relates to your asthma complaints and the causes (triggers) of these complaints.

Most people with asthma will recognize the onset of tightness. Most have medication for this, often even 2 different types of inhalers (“puffers”). It is understandable that you want to get rid of that uncomfortable feeling quickly and be able to breathe freely again. In this situation, you may quickly opt for your fast-acting bronchodilator. This short-acting bronchodilator immediately reduces symptoms, but does not tackle the underlying problem (the inflammation of the lungs). You can use this form of medication, according to the medical guidelines of the NHG, a maximum of twice a week. You may have received different advice from a doctor or nurse.

The Asthma app was developed by a team of scientific researchers, designers, technicians and healthcare providers. They expect this app to help you gain insight into your asthma.

Researchers from the National eHealth Living Lab (NeLL) will investigate the effect of the Asthma app and the experiences of users.
