Mobile
This app calculates the cost of using electrical equipment provided you know the wattage, hours of use and the price you are paying for electricity. Switch on Advanced mode in settings to use voltage, VA load and power factor to calculate electrical current.

Settings Screen Inputs
£/kWh (price) – Enter the price per kWh that you pay for your electricity.
Make sure you enter the right price and do not have to divide by 100.
If you have a split tariff such as Day/Night make sure you use the price that applies at the time you use the appliance.

The settings are automatically saved.

Standard Mode
Calculator Screen Inputs
Watts – Enter the power rating of the appliance that you want to calculate the load details for.
Ensure this is entered as watts and not kilowatts.

Hours/Day (hours per day) – Enter the number of hours that the appliance is switched on. Decimal fractions of hours are allowed.
It is assumed that the appliance is always on and does not have a load factor below 1; for example if a heater has a thermostat the calculator cannot determine the true load due the cycling of the thermostat as the ambient temperature varies.

Calculator Screen Outputs
kWh/Day (kilowatt hours per Day) – This calculated figure shows the energy consumed by the appliance over one day.

Cost/Period – These calculated figures show the cost per period of the energy used.

Advanced Mode
These additional fields appear in Advanced mode:
Settings Screen Inputs
Voltage – Enter the supply voltage of the appliance that you want to calculate the load for.

Calculator Screen Inputs
VA (volt-ampere) – Enter the apparent power rating of the appliance that you want to calculate the load details for.
Ensure this is entered as VA and not kVA.
For a restive load with a power factor of 1 the VA value is the same as the Watts.

Power Factor – Enter the power factor for the appliance. Leading and lagging factor are allowed between -1 and 1.
If in doubt enter a value of 1 which is the power factor for a resistive load.
If you are calculating for a dc (direct current) system set the power factor to 1.

Calculator Screen Outputs
Amps (amperes) – This calculated figure shows the electrical current drawn by the appliance.
Ohms - This figure shows the resistance of the load.
