Idu Mishmi Script Keyboard
(Bringing our language to the palm of your hand)
The Idu Mishmi Cultural and Literary Society (IMCLS), in collaboration with Akhilesh KR, proudly presents the Idu Mishmi Language Keyboard App - a milestone for the Idu-speaking community and a powerful tool for cultural preservation. This app marks a significant step in preserving and promoting the Idu Mishmi language and script.
The foundation for this development was laid in 2018, when the Idu Language Development Committee (ILDC) finalized the Idu Mishmi writing system. That same year, the first-ever Idu Dictionary was completed, marking a historic leap in documenting the language. In 2021, with the support of the Pema Khandu Government, the Idu language entered classrooms as an optional third language in Idu-inhabited districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Yet despite these advances, one major challenge remained: No digital keyboard for smartphones. Without the ability to type in Idu script, youth and phone users were cut off from everyday use of their language in the digital world.
That gap is now closed.
This Android-based Idu Mishmi Language Keyboard app, now available on the Google Play Store, will enable everyone - especially young learners and mobile users - to write and communicate fluently in Idu script across all digital platforms.
Key Features:
- Seamless typing in Idu Mishmi script
- Simple, intuitive layout for easy learning
- Fully functional across messaging, social media, and notes
- Lightweight and compatible with most Android phones
Why It Matters:
This app isn’t just a technical solution - it’s a cultural breakthrough.
It transforms the way we use our language, making digital expression possible in the script that is our own. From students to elders, everyone can now read, write, and share in Idu.
Let us celebrate this achievement. Let us write, teach, and preserve.
Download the Idu Mishmi Language Keyboard and be part of the movement.
Because a language lives on when it is written, spoken, and shared.
Let’s take pride in writing our own words, in our own script.
Let’s write the future - in Idu.
