Tapp Water is an app which assists operation and maintenance of piped water supply systems in Bangladesh. Piped water supply consumers and water service providers both have their own apps which communicate with each other and with a web application that is used to monitor the piped water supply from a distance. This app is the Tapp Water consumer app. The Tapp Water app can be used in Bangla and English and includes five domains:
(a) Service: the consumer can submit service requests and instantly contact the supplier / operator in case of any water issues. The service provider receives timely notification of maintenance work and water quality issues.
(b) Water quality testing: the service provider conducts regular water quality tests of the piped water supply system. The consumer can track the water quality of the supplied water, but also request a water quality test for both piped water and for hand-pump water. All water quality data will be send to a database and become available to both the service providers, consumers, local and national government, and involved organisations.
(c) Payment: The service provider can create payment requests for service delivery, water quality tests or water bill payment. Consumers can pay their bills in person or online.
(d) Knowledge: provides information on water safety, preventive measures, hygiene, health consequences and actions to take.
(e) Connect: provides a platform for interaction. Users can share knowledge and information regarding water supply and water quality via a forum, and stay in touch with each other, the operators, water suppliers and mechanics for service purposes via their in-build contact list.
