Yuvadeepti, also known as SMYM (Syro-Malabar Youth Movement), is the official youth apostolate of the Archdiocese of Changanacherry. It was established on 3rd December 1972 by His Grace Mar Joseph Powathil, a visionary leader deeply committed to the integral formation of young people. The movement was formally inaugurated by Mar Antony Padiyara at Kallarackal Hall, S.B. College, Changanacherry.
Yuvadeepti stands as a dynamic platform for Catholic youth, empowering them to live a Christ-centered life through spiritual, intellectual, and social growth. The name “Yuvadeepti” is derived from two words: "Yuva", meaning youth, and "Deepti", meaning light. True to its name, Yuvadeepti exists to spread the light of Jesus Christ among the youth, guiding them in faith and values.
As a part of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) and affiliated with the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Yuvadeepti connects the youth of the Archdiocese to a broader network of Catholic youth across the state and nation. It is a nationwide Catholic youth movement committed to the integral development of young individuals — nurturing their faith, fostering leadership, and encouraging active participation in Church and society.
With a strong foundation and decades of committed service, Yuvadeepti continues to be a beacon of hope and transformation, inspiring thousands of young people to walk in the light of Christ and build a better world.
