The following of Christ by Thomas a Kempis is a widely used and often read spiritual book, originally written in Latin. It first appeared anonymously around the year 1418.
The following of Christ belongs to the mystical German-Dutch school of the 14th and 15th centuries. For a long time, it was considered to be the most important guide to Christian succession, spread among Catholics and Protestants alike. The Jesuits gave her a place in her retreat. John Wesley and John Newton attributed her an influence to her conversion. General Gordon himself carried her on the battlefield.
There are more than 3,000 different editions, 1,000 of them in the British Museum alone. It is probably the most widely used book of Christianity in the Bible.
