The LifeLine project was created by a joint research and development team from Kean University and Carnegie Mellon University. LifeLine for the Android OS Platform was designed and developed by Peter Krivoshik, an Undergraduate Researcher in Kean University's Department of Computer Science.

Primary updates and application maintenance responsibilities have been entrusted to an equally motivated and capable team of Undergraduate Researchers within Kean University's Computer Science Department.

LifeLine utilizes your own smart phone's native sensors to monitor for, and identify sudden serious or otherwise life-threatening falls. In the event that one occurs, you will be prompted as to whether or not you're okay. If you don't response after a short period of time, LifeLine will assume that you are in need of immediate medical attention and automatically dial your preprogrammed emergency contact number without requiring any external input.

This addresses a huge flaw in similar personal emergency response devices available to consumers, in that an individual suffering from a stroke or similarly incapacitating medical emergency will likely be unable to use their hands to push the button. Moreover, these products often come with expensive subscription plans and contractual agreements that carry whopping early cancellation fees. All LifeLine needs to worry is an active SIM Card with a provider who offers coverage in your area, supported on your particular Android Phone.

*Please Note: Even though dialing 911 is possible without a SIM card installed, or even cellular service/coverage, we do not recommend using 911 as your emergency contact number. Laws very by municipality but most departments carry penalties for illegitimate calls directly to 911 call centers. We recommend either selecting either a trusted family member or partner, a close friend or perhaps your primary care doctor / nurse if you have a preexisting agreement that you may contact them at any time day or night. Whomever you choose should always keep their phone close by and audible, or ideally a landline number which they can be reached at.
