We are providing you with the Diagnose and Treat application we have developed in the hope that it will be helpful when a patient with depression or suspected depression comes to you.
According to our intentions, the result of our work should be a modern educational tool supporting the correct diagnosis of depressive disorders and making decisions about the appropriate treatment. It is not intended to replace the doctor in this process, his knowledge, experience and, above all, willingness to listen to what the patient has to tell us. It also does not serve to limit the role of a psychiatrist, whose consultation and support - and often constant care - in many cases will remain irreplaceable.
Knowledge about the types of depression, pharmacological armamentarium and the proposed decision-making algorithm are an expression of the need to optimize the use of available scientific evidence.
We trust that such educational support will be valuable both for those of you who already have experience in treating depression, as well as for those who are just gaining it.
Epidemiological studies and statistics on the causes of sickness absence confirm the fact that depression is a population-wide problem. For this reason, all of us - primary care physicians, psychiatrists, doctors of other specialties - should unite our efforts to properly diagnose and effectively treat our patients.
This is what the Diagnose and Treatment application should be used for.
