The AGROAPIS project was conceived within the ROMAPIS federation in 2017, was evaluated and approved by AFIR in the expression of intent phase in 2018, the documentation was submitted in the second evaluation phase in 2019 and qualified for funding in 2020 and the financing contract was signed on 31.05.2021.
The project aims to identify, study and put into practice alternative sources of food (nectar and pollen) for bees and other pollinating insects by introducing into the agricultural circuit some crops that contribute to the improvement of agro-environmental conditions in the context of limiting food sources for them due to the expansion of monocultures and crops with reduced honeydew qualities and with a shorter flowering period.
In particular, the possibility of exploiting agricultural cover crops from a beekeeping point of view is being pursued. In this sense, species used in the 2nd crop are being tested, which has the main role of covering agricultural land left vacant after harvesting the early crops (such as autumn grass cereals) so that during the summer period weeding, loss of moisture is avoided from the soil, erosion and finally to obtain the enrichment of the soil in nutrients by decomposing the plant mass resulting from the abolition of these crops and incorporating them into the soil.
