Illustrated course of operative surgery and topographic anatomy. This course reveals the history of the development of surgery and anatomy through the prism of an artistic image. Witnesses are called upon the most advanced part of that society - artists, sculptors, engravers, book publishers. Works of art are presented illustrating the development of surgery in the era of its inception and in the early stages. Thanks to the works of fine art that have come down to our time - paintings, prints, sculptures, it becomes possible to reliably evaluate what surgery was at that last moment, to go to surgical operations, to see ancient surgeons, and to understand how far we have gone and at what cost mankind has got modern achievements of surgery.
The course is interesting not only to future doctors, but also to all people who are partial to their past and striving to understand the present.
