Sholawat or Selawat in its full form Shallallāhu 'alayhi wa as-sallām is an expression spoken by Muslims whenever they refer to the name of the Prophet Muhammad. Sholawat Prophet In any language it is a sign of great honor and respect. It is also used whenever saying the name of another person seen as a great prophet (Isa, Moses, etc.).
Muslims say or write the expression Sholawat Nabi to get blessings from Allah for Muhammad, and in turn, blessings for themselves. The abbreviation SAW is used in writing in the Muslim world in private and sometimes in government documents. The Koran, Islam's holy book, commands this to be done. Surah Al-Ahzab says,
"Verily Allah and his angels pray for the prophet. O you who believe! Salawat to the prophet and say greetings with respect to him." (Al-Ahzab 33:56)
