Mujra is a dance performance by women in a format that emerged during Mughal rule in India, where the elite class and local rulers like the nawabs of the Indian society used to frequent courtesans for their entertainment at night.

It combines elements of the native classical Kathak dance with native music including thumris and ghazals. It also includes poems from other Mughal periods. Mujra was traditionally performed at mehfils and in special houses called kothas. During Mughal rule in the subcontinent, in places such as Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, the tradition of performing mujra was a family art and often passed down from mother to daughter.

When dance bars were closed across Maharashtra state, many former bar girls moved to 'Congress House' near Kennedy Bridge on Grant Road area in Mumbai, the city's oldest hub for mujra, and started performing mujra there. The women are trained in
mujra in Agra of India and Lahore and Karachi of Pakistan. Dawn newspaper, Karachi, describes Lahore's Heera Mandi area as, "Pakistan's oldest red light district was for centuries, a hub of traditional erotic dancers, musicians and prostitutes.

Pashto music is commonly performed in Afghanistan and Pakistan among Pashtun people. The major center for Pashto music and arts is found in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Tappa is the oldest and most popular genre of the Pashto poetry. The Tappa is a composition of two unequal meters, in which the first line is shorter than the succeeding one, yet it reflects all human feelings and aspirations elegantly. Be it laborers, peasants, or women, all sentiments find expression in the Tappa.

Gul Panra , is a Pakistani Pashto folk singer and touring artist. Her live concerts include United Kingdom and Afghanistan.

In 2015, she sung "Man Aamadeh Am" song's remix version in Persian language with Atif Aslam. In 2018, she sung the song "Hawa Hawa" with the singer Hassan Jahangir.

Khattak dance is a swift martial attan dance usually performed while carrying a sword and a handkerchief by the tribesmen from the agile Khattak tribe of Pashtuns in Pakistan and some eastern parts of Afghanistan. It was performed by Khattak
warriors before going to wars in the time of Malik Shahbaz Khan Khattak, and then Khushal Khan Khattak.

Modern Mujra dancers perform at events like weddings, birthday and bachelor parties in countries where traditional Mughal culture is prevalent, such as India. To a lesser extent, dancers in India often perform a modern form along with popular local music.
