Taiji (tai chi), short for Tai ji quan, or T'ai chi ch'üan (Tai chi chuan, pinyin: tàijíquán; 太极拳), is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training, its health benefits and meditation. Taiji refers to the forces of yin and yang, related to the moves. Originally conceived as a martial art, today is practiced for achieving greater longevity. A multitude of training forms exist, both traditional and modern, with different emphasis. Some training forms of tàijíquán are known for slow movements.
