How it works - spirit box app makes use of EVP (Electronic voice phenomena) with the help of white noise generator and audio channel scanner (similar to a radio that changes stations quickly by rotating a knob).

Additionaly echo helps to bring up different audio characteristics. Echo in the app is real. It's not generated audio effect, it captures audio from microphone and plays it back (optionally with some delay). It helps with getting better responses than ordinary EVP.
