The Yukon River Quest is an annual marathon paddling race held in Canada in late June every year, from Whitehorse to Dawson City . It is 444 miles (715 km) long and takes three to five days for the competitors to complete the course. Paddlers come from around the world to test their endurance, racing day and night to the Klondike on one of North America’s great rivers. It is open to solo and tandem canoes and kayaks, solo stand-up paddle boards (SUPs), and bigger C4 and Voyageur canoes. This app allows you to view the course and track the progress of the competitors using feeds from the satellite tracking systems carried by each of them. In the months leading up to the race, the app will only show test data but from the middle of June onwards the full list of competitors will be visible on the map at Whitehorse and after the race has started on June 25th you will see the latest reported position of each competitor. Please note that some of the satellite tracking systems only report new fixes every 30 minutes, so please do not expect to see the boat icons move in real time. The race is sponsored by Air North (Yukon's Airline), Chieftain Energy, Lotteries Yukon, NewMont GoldCorp, Gold Trail Jeweller's, the Coal Mine Campground, Driving Force Vehicle Rentals, Total North, Up North Adventures, northland Beverages, mammoth, Fraserway RV and the Government of Yukon Tourism and Culture.
