A Yankee in the court of King Arthur is a novel by the American writer Mark Twain published in 1889. It is a satire in which, through a journey through time, the western civilization of the nineteenth century is opposed to the European Middle Ages
The story begins when Morgan is beaten while trying to mediate a fight inside the factory. Without explanation, it is transported back in time and space to the 6th-century Britain, the supposed times of King Arthur. Captured by Sir Kay, the Seneschal, he leads him to Camelot, described as a poor village crowned by a castle. There he is exhibited before the nobles, presented as savages, and sentenced to die at the stake. However, taking advantage of knowledge about the moment when an eclipse of the sun would occur, he manages to save himself, after which he is considered a portentous magician and obtains the favor of King Arthur, but at the same time he earns the envy of the magician Merlin, who really is a charlatan and who becomes the main antagonist.
From now on, Hank Morgan introduces numerous reforms and inventions taking advantage of the scientific knowledge of the 19th century to turn medieval England into an industrial country.
