The Humie app helps kids aged 3-7 and their parents build emotional literacy (EQ) by integrating reflective practice with popular TV.
Humie meets families where they are, providing reassurance to parents about their kids' screen time as well as co-watching support. Viewers get to practice skills like perspective-taking and emotion labeling through playful activities with some of their favorite characters.
The app features curated titles from trusted sources like Disney, BBC Studios, PBS Kids, and others. Beloved shows like Bluey, Octonauts, Sophia the First, Phineas and Ferb, and many more become interactive experiences that build empathy, emotional awareness, and resilience.
Developed by Columbia cognitive scientists with funding from the National Science Foundation, the app has been designed and tested in collaboration with leading kids' media experts, and shown to improve viewers' emotional vocabulary and to increase discussion of emotions between parents and kids at home.
We intend for Humie to always be accessible for free to those unable to afford a paid subscription. To enable this, we ask those who can afford it to support Humie by subscribing.
