Bikram Sambat (BS) is the official calendar of Nepal. It is a lunisolar calendar, based on both the moon phases and the movement of the sun. It has been used in Nepal for centuries and is also recognized in some parts of India. Bikram Sambat runs about 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar (AD/CE). For example, the year 2025 AD corresponds to 2082 BS. The year begins with the month of Baisakh, which usually falls around mid April in the Gregorian calendar. Bikram Sambat is deeply tied to Nepali culture, festivals, and rituals, including the New Year in Baisakh, Dashain, and Tihar.
