Prostate Cancer International (PCaI) is an independent not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is dedicated to providing comprehensive information about prostate cancer primarily to prostate cancer patients and their families. PCaI has partnered with CancerLife and with the John Wayne Cancer Institute to recruit patients for a Quality of Life study using a novel mobile app to collect QoL data about patients with prostate cancer.

The PCa Social Network PLUS app, powered by CancerLife, allows patients to connect through a social network experience; to compare symptoms, treatments, and side effects with others; to track daily symptoms and side effects; and to report that information accurately to their physician. Existing evidence already suggests that, by doing this, patients may be able to improve their Quality of Life. We have partnered with the John Wayne Cancer Institute to further confirm this hypothesis by running an ongoing study.

The PCa Social Network PLUS app will help each individual patient to build and be linked to a social network that includes other prostate patients who not only understand what you are going through, but also may also be on the same treatments. The app allows each patient to post his health status using our symptom journal inside the social network. That symptom journal can then be used to create reports for the patient and his doctor. These data will help the patient’s care team to better understand and manage the symptoms and side effects he is dealing with, so that things aren’t forgotten or missed. This data set will also grow over time and allow us, collectively, to better understand and educate the entire community on how treatments and therapies are impacting patients in the real world.
