In the field of professional publishing: film mirrors novels; television and on-line news parallels newspapers; documentaries emulate books on history, geography and science; and television lifestyle and reality shows imitate magazines. However, audiovisual composing has not complemented written composing within education. Audiovisual essays, reports and case studies, for subjects across the curriculum, are not found alongside written ones. Students do not create audiovisual short stories and poetry in audiovisual language classes that match such activities in written language classes: and do not study professional audiovisual texts as they currently analyze written literature.
