For messages, the content is encrypted with a "secret" provided by the SENDER, not the recipient. The secret must be shared with the recipient in order for the message contents to be revealed (How that is done is up to the two participants). Each time the recipient would like to reveal the message contents, the secret must be entered. Otherwise, the message contents are unavailable. This greatly improves protecting your messages from prying eyes.

For saved personal media, including images, videos, audio or text, you supply the secret. Once encrypted, the content is completely unavailable for anyone else to see.
