The large exhibition hosted at the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Madama in Turin features Andrea Mantegna, one of the most important artists of the Italian Renaissance.

The exhibition itinerary, consisting of more than a hundred works and divided into six sections, tells the artistic experience of the Maestro starting from his youthful beginnings up to his role as artist of the Gonzaga court, highlighting the particular moments of his career, his interests and his artistic personality as well as his relationship with the architecture of his time and the literati.

A wide reading of the figure of the artist is thus proposed to visitors, who defined his highly original formative language on the basis of the deep and direct knowledge of Donatello's Paduan works, of his familiarity with the works of Jacopo Bellini and his children (in particular by the brilliant Giovanni), Florentine and Flemish novelties, as well as the study of ancient sculpture.

This App, like the whole exhibition itinerary, not only has a monographic character but presents some masterpieces of the major protagonists of the Renaissance in northern Italy who were in relationship with Mantegna, including: Donatello, Antonello da Messina, Pisanello, Paolo Uccello, Giovanni Bellini, Cosmè Tura, Ercole de 'Roberti, Pier Jacopo Alari Bonacolsi called the Antico and finally Correggio. Alongside Mantegna's paintings, drawings and prints, fundamental works of his contemporaries are exhibited, as well as ancient and modern sculptures, architectural details, bronzes, medals, autographed letters and precious old printed and illuminated volumes.

Specific attention is paid to his role as court artist in Mantua and to the ways in which he defined the dense network of relationships and friendships with writers and scholars, which made him a recognized and important interlocutor in the cultural landscape, capable of giving shape to the moral and aesthetic values of humanists.

This App analyzes 39 points of interest among the main works on display, which the international scientific committee has selected and brought together thanks to prestigious loans from some of the largest collections in the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musée du Louvre and the Musée Jacquemart André in Paris, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Cincinnati Art Museum, the Liechtenstein Museum in Vienna, the Staatliche Museum in Berlin, as well as loans from numerous Italian collections, including the Uffizi Galleries, the Civic Art Gallery of Castello Sforzesco and the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan, the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo and the Tadini Academy in Lovere, the Antoniano Museum and the Civic Museums of Padua, the Cini Foundation and the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice, the Capodimonte Museum of Naples, the Civic Museums of Pavia, the Savoy Gallery and the Museum of Antiquities of Turin, the Civic Museums, the Archiepiscopal Seminary and the Basilica of Sant'Andrea di Mantov to.

The exhibition is also preceded and integrated, in the Medieval Court of Palazzo Madama, by a spectacular apparatus of multimedia projections: visitors are offered an immersive experience in the life, places and works of Mantegna, so as to make the masterpieces accessible which, due to their nature or the delicate state of conservation, cannot be present in the exhibition, from the Ovetari Chapel of Padua to the famous Camera degli Sposi, from his home in Mantua to the great old-fashioned cycle of the Triumphs of Caesar.
